overview
Working together, Coulomb Technologies’ ChargePoint family of products provide an easy to use, comprehensive platform for utilities, municipalities and corporations to deliver electric vehicle (EV) charging for drivers everywhere.
Charging Stations

ChargePoint Charging Stations make electric vehicle use a practical reality by delivering controlled power at convenient locations wherever EVs park. All stations are ChargePoint Network enabled, easy to use, and support international power and connector standards. The stations integrate pleasant aesthetics, practical ergonomics, and sturdy construction making them an ideal solution for home and for outdoor public applications.
Software Services
With the ChargePoint Network Software Application Services you can provision, manage and maintain ChargePoint Charging Stations for every business need. All software applications are offered on-demand and are accessible anywhere there is an Internet connection from your workstation or mobile device. Software services help you to locate charging stations along your commute route, perform demand side management, track the performance of your EV fleet, or establish pricing for access to your charging stations.
Network Services
ChargePoint Network Support Services take care of EV charging operations for you – hassle free. The Network Support Services ensure your charging stations remain operational, that you are assisted by friendly support representatives when needed, and any revenues collected from your charging stations are automatically transferred to your bank account.
Network Architecture
ChargePoint Network enabled charging stations are in constant communication with the ChargePoint Network
Operating System (CPNOS) using a combination of standards-based protocols and wide area communications technologies.
Charging stations are grouped together into radio groups that communicate locally with one another using 2.4GHz, 802.15.4, full mesh radio protocol. Each radio group has a charging station, called a gateway charging station, which is equipped with a cellular modem. Communications with the CPNOS occur through the gateway charging station that has the option to communicate with either CDMA or GPRS – an option you can choose. The combination of self healing wireless mesh and cellular communication technologies ensure that the charging stations are connected to the network whenever needed – whether located on a busy city street with moving traffic, or within a rural home.
The CPNOS provides the core network operation services that actively monitor the operational health of every charging station worldwide. The CPNOS also provides the conduit for IP based, bi-directional communications with the stations enabling on-demand web-accessed applications for access control, billing, advertising, remote diagnostics, demand side management, station map locations, station-trip-mapping and more.
Open Standards
The ChargePoint Network is founded on an open, standards-based architecture providing both station owners and drivers a flexible and consistent platform for plug-in electric vehicle fueling.
The network allows the integration of systems and hardware from multiple suppliers providing station owners the freedom to choose the best charging options available – accommodating the evolving vehicle charging needs of today and tomorrow.
The network’s IP based protocols and standard interfaces allow the network to easily scale and integrate with existing business systems. Published, open XML API interfaces to the CPNOS provide seamless integration into a company’s office systems or a Utility’s AMI systems. The network also provides opportunities for custom applications and new businesses. Charging station location and availability information can be used in custom mobile phone applications and more.
Open standards create a consistent, familiar experience for drivers using the ChargePoint Network to obtain electric fuel. Implementing standards based connectors such as the J1772™ Level II connector ensure drivers can easily plug-in and fuel their vehicle with any ChargePoint charging station. The stations’ integrated RFID reader supports ISO 15693, ISO 14443, MiFare, and contactless credit cards enabling drivers to activate charging sessions anywhere in the world using a ChargePass Card or a credit card.
Security
The ChargePoint Network is founded on the latest, most advanced security technologies available to ensure that your financial and personal information remain private and that all communications between you and charging stations remain secure.
Individualized Password
When you sign up for online access, we ask you to create your own username and password, to access your accounts. This information is encrypted during transmission.
Security Questions
We require ChargePoint Network users to select security questions and provide answers. If we ever need to confirm your identity, your correct answers to security questions will help us verify it’s you.
Timed Log-Off
Our system will automatically log you off if there is inactivity. This reduces the risk of others accessing your information from an unattended computer.
Credit Card Information
The ChargePoint Network meets requirements established with the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). The PCI DSS is a multifaceted security standard that includes requirements for security management, policies, procedures, network architecture, software design and other critical protective measures. This comprehensive standard is intended to help the ChargePoint Network protect your account data
Communications Security
All communications are between your Web browser, the ChargePoint Network and gateway-charging stations are encrypted. The ChargePoint Network uses some of the strongest forms of encryption commercially available for use on the Web today including HTTP over SSL. Local wireless communication between charging stations is secured using wireless dynamic mesh 802.15.4 high security mode.
Secure Servers
The ChargePoint Network is housed on secure servers that are protected 24 hours a day including a powerful firewall that blocks unauthorized entry.
Additional Security Measures
The ChargePoint Network layered approach to security extends beyond a unique username and password, encrypted communications, and secure servers. We have additional security measures that may be activated in response to certain activities or events. If we are suspicious of any charging station access, we may restrict access to charging stations, access to accounts or prevent certain types of transactions. These measures safeguard your identity and your accounts. Further proof of identity may be required before your ChargePoint Network access is restored.
